On a walk through the hallways, one might see Ms. Lauren Sims working with a group of students. She remains engaged with her students, regardless of the movement or other distracting noises. She will not allow her students to get off task because she realizes the importance of an education, especially in the early years. Ms. Sims came to Allen Village School in 2013 as a primary teacher and has continued to work with students in the primary grades during her time at the Village.
Ms. Sims is originally from the South. She was born in Meridian, Mississippi, but mostly grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. She wanted to become a teacher so she could make a positive difference in the lives of children in the Kansas City community. Ms. Sims attended college here in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 2013. She was actually recommended to work at our school from a professor at the college who once taught in our building. This professor knew that Ms. Sims had the work ethic and aptitude to be a successful teacher at Allen Village School.
Ms. Sims understands the importance of building a relationship with each of her students and how it can impact the learning process. She explains, “I love the relationships I get to build with my students. I love hearing about the experiences and challenges my students face because it helps me to know them better. Once I know them better, I can teach them better.” Ms. Sims works on this each and every day with her primary students.
On a personal note, in her free time she enjoys taking care of Spiderfish, her pet Betta. She also enjoys celebrating Taco Tuesday weekly and can often be found at either Mi Ranchito or Taqueria Mexico. Finally, her southern roots still have a direct impact on her, since a large sweet tea is by far her favorite drink.
Her contagious smile and warm heart are valued at Allen Village School and we are honored to have her as a part of our staff.
